DOROTHY I. BURNARD



HORNELL-Dorothy I. Burnard, 96 of Hornell, passed away Wednesday morning (Jan. 27, 20l0) at Hornell Gardens in the presence of her loving family.

Born Dorothy Irene Wennington on Aug. 19, 1913 in Darlington, England she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jane Kirtley Wennington. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband of 52 years, "Ron" in 1990; her twin great-grandchildren, Emma and Johnny Osmin in 2003; her four sisters, Ena, Lil, Margaret and Elsie; her step-sister, Connie; her brother, Redvers Wennington and her two sons-in-law, Gerald Dieter and Carl Kinback.

From Darlington, England, Dorothy moved south to London where she was employed as a "Nanny" and where she attended nursing school at St. Mary's Hospital.

Later she met the most handsome fellow she had ever seen on a motorcycle, "Ron" and they were married in High Wycombe (County Buckinghamshire) on June 18, 1938.

Being just 30 miles outside of London, Dorothy made her way with her three children during World War II with "Ron" off in the Royal Air Force. After World War II they decided to immigrate to America where she and her family joined her sister, Margaret (Gordon) Wallm on the Canisteo Road.

Dorothy was employed for many years and many departments at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell including maternity, pediatrics, SPD and retired with Mr. Bondi in the Physical Therapy Dept. after many enjoyable years. She then topped off her career as a volunteer.

Her family includes her three children, Thomas (Barbara) Burnard of Alfred, Jennifer Morey of Arkport and Rona Kinback of Hornell; her seven grandchildren, Scott (Trish) Burnard of Queensbury, N.Y., Renee' (Ken) Mayhew of Ocoee, Fl., Lisa (Dan) Galatio of Hornell, John Kinback of Hornell, Jodi (John) Osmin of Arkport, Christopher (Sally) Dieter of Almond and Michael Morey of Hornell; her nine great-grandchildren;Kelsie Burnard of Queensbury, N.Y. Jessica Osmin and Joseph Osmin both of Arkport, Craigory Dieter of Virginia, Tyler Day serving with the USAF in Japan, Cody Day of Ocoee, Fl., Jack Galatio of Hornell, Alicia Henderson and Hannah Henderson of Almond; also her step-brother, Derek (Kathleen) Wennington and her nephew Barrie (June) Wennington both of England.

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in her memory at the convenience of the family at Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
