RITA HAHN KERRICK
ARKPORT-Rita Hahn Kerrick, 74, formerly of Mack School Road, and a resident of McAuley Manor in North Hornell, passed away early Monday morning (Jan. 11, 2010) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Born in Syracuse on Feb. 26, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Gertrude Sullivan Klapetzky. In 1956 she was married at St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale to Edward Hahn, who predeceased her in 1972 after 16 years of marriage. In 1975 she was married at St. James' Church in Irondequoit to Harry W. Kerrick, Jr., who predeceased her in 2005 after 30 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husbands, she was also predeceased by her brother, Albert Klapetzky.
A former resident of Syracuse, Rita graduated from St. John's Catholic Academy and attended the Powelson Business Institute. While residing in Syracuse she was employed by New York Telephone.
Rita also resided in Rochester where she was employed by the former Rochester Telephone. She volunteered for the American Red Cross in Rochester where she taught the blind to swim. She was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America and taught CCD for St. James' Parish.
In 1978 she moved to the Arkport area and was appointed as the first assessor for the Town of Dansville in 1980 and served in that capacity for three years. Later she served as an assistant to the assessor for the Town of Hornellsville for five years.
A member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, she was a communicant St. Ann's Church in Hornell. Rita enjoyed knitting, cross stitching and gardening. While residing on the Mack School Road she especially loved walking and cross country skiing around her property.
Her family includes her two sons, Gerald (Robin) Hahn of Cobleskill and Stephen (Bonny) Hahn of Arkport; her stepson, Jeff Kerrick; her five grandchildren, Brianne and Owen Hahn of Cobleskill, Karly (Todd) Wright and Koby Hahn all of Arkport and Ashley Kerrick; her great-grandson, Eli Wright of Arkport; her two sisters, Joan Cline of Utah and Anne (Dick) Lindenmayer of Florida; her two brothers, Daniel (Lois) Klapetzky of Virginia and John (Ursula) Klapetzky of Illinois; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.
To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann's Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her memory at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
