at the Seager-Bates Home in Hornell, after a long illness.

Born on Greenwood Hill in Andover on May 19, 1924 she was a daughter of the late Emery and Alice Loomis Walden. On June 5, 1965 she was married to Leo E. Damrath and they resided at 392 Duane St. in Hornell. Leo predeceased her on April 26, 1985 after 20 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her four brothers, Leroy, Gerald, Clifford and William Walden; her two sisters, Pansy Walden and Alberta Walden and her stepson, Gerald Damrath.

Arbirta grew up on Greenwood Hill and attended Greenwood Central School and graduated from Andover Central School with the class of 1944. After graduation she was employed as a housekeeper and nursing aid until she began her employment in 1946 at the Kayser Glove Factory. A resident of Hornell since 1958 she was employed for Hickey-Freeman and later as a seamstress for Marion Rohr retiring in 1985 after 25 years of employment.

She was a faithful member of the former Spencer United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of Trustees; and a member of the United Methodist Church in Hornell. For 49 years she was also a member of the women's Sally Marquis Fellowship group.

Arbirta loved reading, crocheting and making beautiful things for others. She will be especially remembered for cooking special dinners for her family and friends. She loved family outings, picnics and the Walden family get togethers. She especially enjoyed the Walden family band. Over the years Arbirta and her husband, Leo, enjoyed traveling and they took many road trips to see the country.

Her family includes her sister, Mary Walden Potter of Comanche, Iowa; her stepson, Edward (Mary) Damrath of Secaucus; her daughter-in-law, Marjorie Damrath of Hornell; also several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and her many special nieces, nephews and cousins from Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Florida, Illinois and New York.

A special thank you to Theresa Bates of the Seager-Bates Home for her loving care over the past year.
