JAMES A. "U.J." LaVERDE

HORNELL-James A. "U.J." LaVerde, 41, passed away very unexpectedly early Wednesday morning (Jan. 6, 2010) at his home at 114 East Main St.

Born in Hornell on Nov. 16, 1968 he was the son of Ronald LaVerde, Sr. and Rose Sheridan LaVerde. On Oct. 5, 2002, he was married at the United Methodist Church in Hornell to the former Julie Fox.

A life long resident of Hornell, Jim was a graduate of Hornell High School and had been employed at Kraft Foods in Avon, Simmons-Rockwell in Hornell and was currently employed at Lowe's in Hornell.

He was a life time fan of the Dallas Cowboys, NASCAR (especially Jimmy Johnson) and playing World of War Craft on the computer.

Always smiling and cracking jokes or playing pranks on someone, he loved the outdoors and often took charge of the grill. He will be remembered most of all for the love he had for his family and for being the best husband and father anyone could ever have.

His family includes his wife of seven years, Julie; his two daughters, Ashley Rose LaVerde of Canisteo and Alyssa Renee LaVerde of Hornell; his grandson, who was named after him, James Caleb; his mother, Rose M. Sheridan of Hornell; his father and stepmother, Ronald Sr. and JoAnn LaVerde of Hornell; his two sisters, Teresa "Terry" LaVerde and N. Lynn LaVerde both of Hornell; his two brothers, Shawn (Bobbie Jo) LaVerde and Ronald Jr. (Tresa) LaVerde all of Hornell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruce and Christine Fox of Avoca; also his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend, Don Flint of Hornell.

Calling hours are from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Private committal services for his family and interment will be held at Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
