GERALDINE L. "JERRY" HANRAHAN



ARKPORT-Geraldine L. "Jerry" Hanrahan, 77, passed away unexpectedly Monday (Jan. 4, 2010) at her home at 10 The Oaks.

Born in St. Louis, Mo. on Nov. 29, 1932, she was the only child of the late Joseph and Mary Burn Harrison. On Oct. 12, 1954, she was married in St. Louis, Mo. to William F. "Bill" Hanrahan, who predeceased her on April 10, 2009, after 54 years of marriage.

Jerry received her education in all girl catholic schools and was employed as an executive secretary for the American Red Cross and the U.S. Air Force in St. Louis.

She resided in the Hornell area for most of her life and for 15 years in Akron. For about 10 years she was employed as a clerk at the former Elmhurst Dairy Store on Seneca Street in Hornell.

A devout Catholic, Jerry was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church where she was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society and served as a religious education teacher for many years. Most recently she has been a communicant of St. Ann's Church and was a member of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel.

She was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening and doing ceramics. She will be remembered most of all for the love she had for her family.

Her family includes her eight children, Patrick (Linda) Hanrahan of Hornell, Robin Hanrahan of Hornell, David (Yvonne) Hanrahan of Hornell, Thomas (Denise) Hanrahan of Galveston, Tx., Mary Bridget (Loren) South of Hornell, Kevin (Vicky) Hanrahan of Hornell, Stephanie Hanrahan of Rochester and William Hanrahan, Jr. (Michelle Davenport) of Philadelphia, Pa.; also her 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and her long time dear friend, Ruth Valentine of Hornell.

Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,Tribute Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
