RELIANCE M. DENCENBURG
AVOCA-Reliance M. Dencenburg, 93, passed away Tuesday morning (Sept. 29, 2009) at her home at 5405 Michigan Hollow Road.
Born on July 12, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Maude Johnston. She was raised by her grandmother until she was 15 years old and at which time she was married to Albert Saltsman, who predeceased her in February of 1972. In October of 1975 she was married to Harry Dencenburg, who predeceased her in 2002. Besides her husbands she was also predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Wilbur Weaver, who were killed in a car accident in 1986.
From the age of 5 years old Madeline picked potatoes almost every year until 1955 when she began her employment with Westinghouse in Bath. She also raised foster children and later was employed at Haines Equipment, Inc. in Avoca.
She enjoyed having many flowers and vegetable gardens.
Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Alice Sue Saltsman of Avoca; her four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Lorraine Smith of Syracuse; also her nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in her memory at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca at a day and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Avoca Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 3 Chase St., Avoca, NY 14809.
