CARROLL LINCOLN HAINES



AVOCA-Carroll Lincoln Haines, 77, peacefully died at his home in Avoca on Friday evening (September 4, 2009).

He was born on February 12, 1932 in Presque Isle, Maine and married Patricia Sager Haines of Avoca, N.Y. on October 18, 1952, who survives him.

He was the son of Frederick Harold and Minnie Theresa Porter Haines of Presque Isle, Maine who preceded him in 1975 and 1971. Also preceding him was a sister Marion (Bill) Small of Cape Elizabeth, Maine in 2007.

He was born and raised in Presque Isle, Maine until he came to Avoca, N.Y. in 1946 and started Haines Equipment Inc. in Avoca, N.Y. and worked side by side with his wife of almost 57 years.

He served his country in 1952-1953 during the Korean War, and was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church, International Gideon and served on the board of the Bank of Avoca.

He loved flying his Cessna 182 airplane delivering parts up and down the eastern shore for his customers which were involved in the potato and onion agriculture industry. This passion has been handed down to his children and grandchildren. He also loved traveling and meeting many customers which took him around the world. An avid outdoorsman with snowmobiling, canoeing, biking and growing vegetables was a favorite pastime.

He is survived by a brother, Harold (Jackie King) Haines, Jr. of Presque Isle, Maine and his children, Carol Haines (Marshall) Leach, Holly Haines West, Melody Haines, Patrick (Ruby) Haines, Minnie Haines (William) Brennan and Peter Haines (Jenny Haag); grandchildren, Genevieve Leach (Jeremy) Honaker, Marshall (Jamie) Leach, Justin (Nicole) West, Jessica West (Aaron) Fowler, Brandon West, Jennifer West, Ike and Aliza Haines, Andrew Brennan, Michael Brennan and Emily Brennan, Jakob Haines-Storm; great-grandchildren, Tylor Silvernail, David Brown, Kagan West, Adysson West, Darwin Brewer West and Fowler baby due in October 2009; also survived by several nieces, nephews and countless friends throughout the world.

Calling hours are scheduled for Saturday (September 12, 2009) from Noon-2 p.m. at the Avoca Baptist Church, 1 Church St., Avoca and the funeral will be held immediately afterwards at the Avoca Baptist Church with burial following at the Valley View Cemetery (Jacobs Ladder Road), Avoca, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations are set up for the Avoca Ambulance and Fire Company, PO Box 618, Avoca, N.Y.

Arrangements are with the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca.
