GORDON S. WINGHART



AVOCA-Gordon S. Winghart, 93, of Route 415, died Sunday evening, (Aug. 30, 2009) at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath, after a brief illness.

Born in Rochester on June 3, 1916, Gordon was married to the former Clarice Glover, who predeceased him 1985. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his daughter, Clarice Calkins.

He was employed as general foreman for General Dynamics in Rochester and before he retired in 1981 he was employed by FA Motors also in Rochester.

A member of the Avoca Assembly of God Church for over 25 years, he also served as the church's treasurer for more than 20 years and with the assistance of "Granger", renovated the interior of his beloved church. For many years he was a member of Gideons International.

Gordon enjoyed making art glass lamps and clocks as gifts to be given to his family and friends. He was also a talented woodworker and plumber and renovated the cabooses at the Caboose Motel in Avoca.

His family includes his son, Gordon (Sharon) Winghart of Rochester; his daughter, Florence McBride of Avoca; his five grandchildren, Brian (Colista) McBride, Maureen (Mickey) Pierotti, Brenda (Ken) Piazza, Gary Winghart and Lora Winghart; his seven great-grandchildren, Meagan Cooper, Cordelia McBride, Laura Piazza, Anna Piazza, Gary (Suzanne) Winghart, Amber (David) Eldred and Jessica Winghart.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Avoca Assembly of God Church, 11 Griswold St., Avoca, where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. today, with the Rev. Samuel Stetter officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Avoca assembly of God Church, 11 Griswold St., P.O. Box 70, Avoca, NY 14809.

Arrangements are with the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca.
