GORDON L. WRAIGHT



LADY LAKE, Fl./AVOCA-Gordon. L. Wraight, 84, of Lady Lake, Fla. and a summer resident of Avoca since 1978, died Saturday (Aug. 29, 2009) at Lady Lake Specialty Care.

Born in Prattsburgh on April 25, 1925 he was the son of the late George W. and Esther A. Smith Wraight. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son, Stanley Wraight in 2008 and his brother, Duane Wraight.

He owned and operated a dairy farm in Wheeler before his retirement.

Gordon resided in Zephyrhills, Fla. before moving to Lady Lake in 2007. Since 1978 he has spent the summer months in Avoca.

He enjoyed Blue Grass music and attending concerts as well as RV camping, traveling in Canada, playing bingo and he was a frequent weekly visitor to Busch Gardens in Tampa. While residing in New York he was a member of the Steuben County Farm Bureau, the Wheeler Grange and Dairylea Co-op.

His family includes his wife, the former Helen Nettie Armstrong of Lady Lake, Fla.; his four daughters, Janice (Tad) Thompson of The Villages, Fla., Catherine (Ellwood) Bear of Citrus Heights, Calif., Mary (Larry) Compton of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Sally (Chris) Duda of Collegeville, Pa; his daughter-in-law, Martha Wraight of Bath; his nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and his two sisters, Shirley Manroe and Helen Fullmer.

Calling hours are 10 a.m. noon Saturday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, with his grandson, Rev. Patrick Wraight officiating.

Committal services and interment will follow at the Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery.
